Why?:

I am a fan of Deathnote, as well as a couple others of theirs I think, so I’m intrigued by this. It sounds dark, and very interesting. The cover is very pretty. I’m hoping to pick up a copy at some point.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Then, one day, she meets Itaru, the heir to a wealthy family, who happens to look exactly like her. Itaru hatches a plan: Atsuko will live his tedious public life for him, and she will get a taste of the luxuries enjoyed by the 1%. Everybody's (finally) happy. Right?

Why?:

This sounds very intriguing to me. And I believe it’s shojo, but it also seems a little dark, maybe? The artwork looks a little odd to me, so I’m mostly wary about that. But this series has caught my eye and I’m hoping I’ll like it.

Special Mentions:
Happiness 1 by Shuzo Oshimi out on Sept. 27—I’m mostly intrigued by the hype there is for this series. It doesn’t particularly sound like my kind of book, but the cover keeps catching my eye.
Welcome to the Ballroom 1 by Tomo Takeuchi out on Sept. 27—This seems like another shojo series, maybe? And while I’m usually a fan of books with dancing, I’m a little wary of this one. The artwork looks odd. Maybe good, though.

Wishlist Thursday[176]: Bright Smoke, Cold Fire (Untitled, #1) by Rosamund Hodge

Bright Smoke, Cold Fire (Untitled, #1) by Rosamund Hodge

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Retelling

Publisher: Balzer + Bray

Release Date: September 27, 2016

Goodreads Synopsis:

When the mysterious fog of the Ruining crept over the world, the living died and the dead rose. Only the walled city of Viyara was left untouched.

The heirs of the city’s most powerful—and warring—families, Mahyanai Romeo and Juliet Catresou share a love deeper than duty, honor, even life itself. But the magic laid on Juliet at birth compels her to punish the enemies of her clan—and Romeo has just killed her cousin Tybalt. Which means he must die.

Paris Catresou has always wanted to serve his family by guarding Juliet. But when his ward tries to escape her fate, magic goes terribly wrong—killing her and leaving Paris bound to Romeo. If he wants to discover the truth of what happened, Paris must delve deep into the city, ally with his worst enemy . . . and perhaps turn against his own clan.

Mahyanai Runajo just wants to protect her city—but she’s the only one who believes it’s in peril. In her desperate hunt for information, she accidentally pulls Juliet from the mouth of death—and finds herself bound to the bitter, angry girl. Runajo quickly discovers Juliet might be the one person who can help her recover the secret to saving Viyara.

Both pairs will find friendship where they least expect it. Both will find that Viyara holds more secrets and dangers than anyone ever expected. And outside the walls, death is waiting. . .

Why?:

I was really impressed with her first book, and I need to pick up her second one. I love retellings, though I’m not really a fan of Romeo and Juliet. I will probably give it a try, though, because I think that with the paranormal twist, and I think that Hodge might actually make it more fun than the others I’ve read.

Wishlist Thursday[175]: The Boy Who Killed Grant Parker by Kat Spears

The Boy Who Killed Grant Parker by Kat Spears

Genre: YA Contemporary

Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin

Release Date: September 13, 2016

Goodreads Synopsis:

Luke Grayson's life might as well be over when he's forced to go live in rural Tennessee with his Baptist pastor father. His reputation as a troublemaker has followed him there, and as an outsider, Luke is automatically under suspicion by everyone from the principal at his new school to the local police chief. His social life is no better. The new kid in town is an easy target for Grant Parker, the local golden boy with a violent streak who has the entire community of Ashland under his thumb.

But things go topsy-turvy when a freak accident removes Grant from the top of the social pyramid, replacing him with Luke. This fish out of water has suddenly gone from social outcast to hero in a matter of twenty-four hours. For the students who have lived in fear of Grant all their lives, this is a welcome change. But Luke’s new found fame comes with a price. Nobody knows the truth about what really happened to Grant Parker except for Luke, and the longer he keeps living the lie, the more like Grant Parker he becomes.

Why?:

After her second and previous book, I’m a little hesitant, but I did really love her first one. This sounds interesting, and might be another fun one. I’m going to stay hopeful, I think.

Special Mentions:
Spoof on Titan 1 by Hounori and Hajime Isayama out on September 13—This sounds like a lot of fun. It might be more fun for me than Junior High was, as well. There’s also the Coloring Book coming out on September 20.
