Review:
I haven't read the previous volumes of this series, but I also
haven't played any of the game, or really have any idea what it's
about. This volume explains at least a little, I suppose.
We see the (supposed?) main group go into the next round of
competition. They're working up to win, they're very competitive, and
they're going up against tough competitors, in equally crazy outfits
and with equally odd names.
I kind of understand the way they play, but it's just odd to me.
There's a bit of a break in the latter half of the volume, when they
go shopping and get to practice and play around.
I do think this would read better, and definitely look cooler, in
full color. There's a lot of mention of color, and the characters
look so crazy, that I think it would be a better experience actually
in color. The shading is done well, so it's not confusing without it,
to know what they're shooting and whatnot, but still.
This is an odd series, and definitely aimed at a younger audience.
A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, for an honest review. Thank you so, so much!
