Wishlist Thursday[134]: Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom

Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom

Genre: YA Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Poppy

Release Date: December 1, 2015

Goodreads Synopsis:

The Rules:

Don't deceive me. Ever. Especially using my blindness. Especially in public.

Don't help me unless I ask. Otherwise you're just getting in my way or bothering me.

Don't be weird. Seriously, other than having my eyes closed all the time, I'm just like you only smarter.

Parker Grant doesn't need 20/20 vision to see right through you. That's why she created the Rules: Don't treat her any differently just because she's blind, and never take advantage. There will be no second chances. Just ask Scott Kilpatrick, the boy who broke her heart.

When Scott suddenly reappears in her life after being gone for years, Parker knows there's only one way to react-shun him so hard it hurts. She has enough on her mind already, like trying out for the track team (that's right, her eyes don't work but her legs still do), doling out tough-love advice to her painfully naive classmates, and giving herself gold stars for every day she hasn't cried since her dad's death three months ago. But avoiding her past quickly proves impossible, and the more Parker learns about what really happened--both with Scott, and her dad--the more she starts to question if things are always as they seem. Maybe, just maybe, some Rules are meant to be broken.

Why?:

I’m pretty much drawn to any book at this point if it includes a character who’s blind or deaf or mute. I am so interested in those themes, in how they are dealt with and handled and I tend to love the books with them. And given that it’s also a contemporary romance, this was on my list as soon as I heard about it. I can’t wait.

Novel Review: Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meaney

Rating (Out of 5): ~3.5-4
Genre: YA Contemporary, Comedy, Romance
Publisher: Poppy
Release Date: 2010
Spoilers?: No.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Some vampires are good. Some are evil. Some are faking it to get girls.
Awkward and allergic to the sun, sixteen-year-old Finbar Frame never gets the girl. But when he notices that all the female students at his school are obsessed with a vampire romance novel called Bloodthirsty, Finbar decides to boldly go where no sane guy has gone before-he becomes a vampire, minus the whole blood sucking part.
With his brooding nature and weirdly pale skin, it's surprisingly easy for Finbar to pretend to be paranormal. But, when he meets the one girl who just might like him for who he really is, he discovers that his life as a pseudo-vampire is more complicated than he expected.
This hilarious debut novel is for anyone who believes that sometimes even nice guys-without sharp teeth or sparkly skin-- can get the girl.

The Cover:

I like this cover a lot. I think it's cute and very fitting. The emoticon shows the age-range, I think, and the fangs give the idea that it's going to be more comedy than paranormal. It's what made me pick it up, and I like it a lot.

Review:

This book was so cute. With the synopsis, it sounded like it should be funny and cute, lighthearted. And it was.
Finn is the twin brother that stays in the background. And he wants a girlfriend, but none seem interested. And when he stumbles across a vampire novel, he gets an idea to start pretending to be one.
Thankfully, he doesn’t just start going around telling people he’s a vampire. He’s more subtle than that. So subtle, in fact, that he tries hinting and very few people really get the idea he’s implying. Though some girls get it so much that they become obsessed.
But through all this, he’s found a friend in a girl, who has no idea about the vampire thing. She just likes him for him, and this has never happened to him before, so much so that he has no idea how to react. It seems too good to be true.
Finn is a sweetheart. I like him from the beginning. His entire idea to be a vampire is clearly terrible from the beginning, but he really tries. And then he’s so oblivious, that it takes him a long time to realize that a girl does actually like him, as a person, as a boy. And she’s a really nice girl, and I love the banter that they have.
This was a really fun, cute book. I’m glad I picked it up.

Why?:

I’ve really enjoyed the books I’ve read by Smith already, and have definitely noticed that her newer ones are even better than her first couple. They tend to be happy and cute and light, which I like, and I just breeze through them. This one sounds really cute, and I like stories that jump around in a timeline. It’s on my list either way, and I hope to get my hands on a copy soon.
